Position Summary: The Peer Support Specialist provides non-clinical, strengths-based support to individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or other life difficulties. Drawing on personal lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, empowerment, and self-determination while assisting individuals in navigating recovery and accessing necessary services.
Essential Functions
· Share lived experiences and personal insights to build trust and rapport.
· Offer emotional support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals in recovery
· Empower individuals to set and achieve personal recovery goals.
· Promote self-advocacy and independence in accessing healthcare, employment, housing, and social support services.
· Assist individuals in identifying and utilizing available community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, housing, and employment programs.
· Maintain accurate records of peer support interactions and services provided.
· Provide information on coping strategies, wellness tools, and self-care practices.
· Help individuals navigate complex systems, such as healthcare, criminal justice, and social services.
· Work collaboratively with other support services, healthcare providers, and community organizations to enhance service accessibility.
· Adhere to ethical guidelines, confidentiality policies, and organizational protocols.
· Participate in supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.
· Conduct outreach and engagement activities to connect with individuals who may benefit from peer support.
· Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals in recovery.
· Lead peer support groups, wellness workshops, and recovery-oriented activities.
· Educate individuals, families, and communities on topics related to mental health, substance use recovery, and stigma reduction.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which are consistent with the position and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
Compensation: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
